By Sue Crawford

The mother of a well-known businessman who died suddenly two years ago is to walk round a popular Carlisle park in his memory.

Father-of-two John Little was 47 when he died after his van came off the road near Thursby in August 2015 following a heart attack.

Now his mum Anne Little, 77, is to do 10 laps of Hammonds Pond on Sunday (Oct 8) to raise funds for the Eden Valley Hospice in nearby Durdar Road, where she is a volunteer. Sponsor money will also go to the British Heart Foundation.

Mr Little was travelling back from the Sands Centre gym in Carlisle to his home at Low Whinnow, near Thursby, when he collapsed at the wheel on the A596 near Thursby roundabout.

Joint founder of the specialist stonemason Askins & Little in Lancaster Street, he was survived by his wife Joanne and teenage children Ewan and Emily,

Mum Anne who lives in Jubilee Road, Currock, said she was doing the walk in memory of John while raising money for the two charities.

“It was a terrible shock when John died,” she said. “I want to remember him while doing something for Eden Valley Hospice and the British Heart Foundation. I do a lot of walking so I should be OK getting round Hammonds 10 times.”

Chris Bray, head of marketing and income generation at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria's Children's Hospice, said he was immensely proud of Anne.

“We are delighted that Anne is raising money for the hospice,” he said.

“She is a long-time supporter of the hospice with her volunteering work and to see her do this walk is just great. So many people support Anne and we will benefit from this. She has even been tapping people up for sponsorship on the bus and in the supermarket.

“We are immensely proud of Anne and are highly appreciative for the work she does for the hospice.”
